Religious contemplations...

Over the past few days, I've been involved in a couple of different threads of discussion with some other LiveJournal users about religion. In the course of that, some of the comments I posted were things I'd always meant to post as entries, but never got around to it.

I'm gonna post some of them here, in a surely disjointed order, for anyone who's interested. ;-)

I've often wondered, assuming you believe in a monotheistic theology, and that this deity is benevolent, how come someone who spends their entire life working for the 'Good' be denied in the afterlife? Would such a benevolent God truly damn a soul to hell simply because that person was never introduced to (for example) Christianity?

On the other hand, if you have someone who is truly a 'Bad' person, and yet they go to church regularly and believe they are doing 'Good', (by intentionally deluding themselves with rationalizations and their own self-centered perspective), would a benevolent God truly reward them for their dedication to their faith, despite their misdeeds?
