Extra credit gets you in trouble?

(from slashdot.org.)

A High School teacher told his computer class that there was a reward from the company if anyone could crack their security system, which was installed at the school. He told the students that if any of them could do it, the teacher wanted a 10% cut.

A student in the class took that as a challenge, and defeated the security system. He then went directly to his teacher, who issued the challenge, and informed him of it.

The next day, he was arrested, questioned, and suspended for 5 days for his actions. The teacher claims he "wasn't serious" about the challenge.
