"The Skulls"

Okay, I just got home from watching the movie, "The Skulls".

If you haven't yet seen this movie, you are very lucky. If you've already seen it, you have my condolences. This has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I was hoping it would be at least halfway decent, and just have a cheesy name.

I mean, the concept, secret societies and such, could make for a pretty cool story, if done right. You could do a lot of neat stuff with that. But, the 'Skulls'? Come on. That sounds like the name of a secret club I would have made up when I was in grade school.

Unfortunately, the rest of the movie wasn't any better. The plot was weak, the acting less than impressive, and some of the stuff in there....I swear, I could really imagine myself coming up with this entire movie when I was in 4th grade. The only change I would have made would be to add some Ninjas to it. You can't make a movie in 4th grade without Ninjas. ;-)

Hopefully whatever I see next will be at least marginally worth it.

2 things...you are funny, and thanks for saving me the money on the rental. i will take your word for it. i loved 'eyes wide shut' for the secret society aspect. the nudity was given too much attention. and the chanting was amazing!

anyway, peace, love
and cripped crickets, (D.A.)

Thanks for the note. ;-)

I agree with you about 'Eyes Wide Shut', as well. I personally thought it was a really good movie, despite the fact that it got a lot of bad popular reviews (from what I saw, most of the reviews by real film critics (as opposed to the opinioned 'review' pieces), film students, and real movie buffs were reasonably positive).

I think the problem came partly from the overblown publicity over the orgy scene (which I really didn't think was that bad, nor that big of a deal), and partly due to Stanley Kubrick's death.

I also think that a lot of people weren't sure what to make of it. I thought it was a beautifully filmed, directed, and acted movie. It was slow, true, but that added a lot to it, in my opinion. It allowed you to consider what was happening and think about the movie while it was playing.

All to often these days, movies require, and desire, no real thought. They just spoon feed a plot to you, if not shove it down your throat, and they work really hard to move fast enough that you never have to think about the plot. For a lot of people, thinking about the plot makes for a bad movie. They want mindless entertainment, and nothing more.

For people like this, 'Eyes Wide Shut' is not a good movie. 'Eyes Wide Shut' requires you to think about what is happening while it goes. It's not just a journey through time, where we watch and see what some people do. It's a journey through the mind of Tom Cruise's character.

As such, it is somewhat twisted, odd, and unusual. That's just the way the human mind is. Some of us are even twisted, odd, and unusual enough to enjoy it. ;-)

I could prolly go on a lot longer about this movie, but I'll shut up now. Got a different opinion about it? Share it with us. ;-)

You know whats really sad? I went to WPI last year in Massachusetts and they actually have a "society" called Skull. Its the honour students. They walk around the buildings in black capes with hoods like a bunch of little Grim Reapers. And they hang out in the old EM Lab on campus thats now titled "Skull Tomb."

Re: Skull

I'm truly impressed with how amazingly pathetic some people really are. ;-)

Do they sacrifice virgins too, I wonder? ;-)

Re: Skull

No, I don't think so. They're still trying to get the virgins to have sex with them cuz the ratio of men to women at that school is 3:1...yes thats 75% men. And 75% of the 25% of the women's population are butch dykes because the sheer idiocy of the male population has driven them overboard.

Re: Skull

It's times like these I'm really glad I chose a school with a greater number of girls than guys. ;-)

Not that it really helps me much, since I still can't get anyone to go out with me.
