Lord Yupa

Quote from Beautiful Creature's guitarist Alex Grossi.

"I'm sick and tired of the "cookie monster" singers that are around. You know?"

I'm quite a fan of Beautiful Creatures, and I was really impressed with their first album when it came out a few years ago. I've been wondering what had happened to them, and I just came across an article on them, with an interview with their (new) guitarist. One of the comments he made is quoted above, and I think it's one of the best quotes I've heard in a *long* time.

I *love* rock and metal, but I've never understood the point of having a lead singer who can't freakin' sing. Why? Why limit yourself like that? The singer's voice should be treated like an instrument, and used like one in the song. Having a singer who can't sing, and does nothing but growl. . . it's like playing guitar with one string and only one hand. Sure, you can make some sound come out, but I'd barely call it music, and I definitely don't wanna listen to it.

Personal suggestion for any new bands out there: Unless you're Pantera[1] (and you're not), your lead singer should be singing, not growling. Remember that, and you'll suck less.

[1] Pantera are one of the few bands out there that can actually pull off a growling "singing" and not sound like absolute crap.
