Lord Yupa

New Printer. . . maybe.

I'm interested in getting a new printer.

What I want:
  • Laser Printer

  • Inexpensive

  • Robust and reliable (I want this thing to last at *least* 5-10 years)

  • Monochrome (B&W)

  • Maximum toner price of about $100/6000pages

  • Compatible with Windows and Linux

  • High resolution (I'd like to have 1200dpi x 1200dpi)
In general, I can tell you pretty much anything you've ever wanted to know about almost anything computer-related. However, to be honest, I don't know printers. I don't know printers, and I don't like printers. I've had nothing but bad luck and bad experiences with printers. I don't like them, and they don't like me.

So. . . at this point, I'm leaning towards a Samsung ML-1650 printer. It appears to have all of the features that I want, and at a pretty good price. It's actually intended as a workgroup level laser printer, but I've found a place or two that are carrying it at a price comparable to most "personal" laser printers (about $255). It's intended use being workgroup oriented, and the fact that it's duty cycle is 40k pages/month (which is prolly more than I'll put through it in it's life) gives me hope that it will last for a lot of years.

Does anyone have any experience with Samsung printers, in particular this model? Anyone have any comments or suggestions?
