The Mind's Eye...

Hrm, it seems like everyone is posting pics these days. I've just browsed a few from sonya, as well as the ones that Nerdy (petfish) posted in her journal entry.

Makes me wonder if I should get around to getting a recent picture of myself taken and scanned so I can show off my ugliness to the world. It's really rather unfair, though. Sonya and Nerdy are both pretty cute, while I most assuredly am not. Of course, the fact that they are female makes a big difference, too.

Hrm....I wonder if I know anyone with a digital camera....

"The Skulls"

Okay, I just got home from watching the movie, "The Skulls".

If you haven't yet seen this movie, you are very lucky. If you've already seen it, you have my condolences. This has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I was hoping it would be at least halfway decent, and just have a cheesy name.

I mean, the concept, secret societies and such, could make for a pretty cool story, if done right. You could do a lot of neat stuff with that. But, the 'Skulls'? Come on. That sounds like the name of a secret club I would have made up when I was in grade school.

Unfortunately, the rest of the movie wasn't any better. The plot was weak, the acting less than impressive, and some of the stuff in there....I swear, I could really imagine myself coming up with this entire movie when I was in 4th grade. The only change I would have made would be to add some Ninjas to it. You can't make a movie in 4th grade without Ninjas. ;-)

Hopefully whatever I see next will be at least marginally worth it.

Eyes Wide Open.

This entry was originally a reply I made to a comment from denmarkadonis. It got me thinking, though, so I figured I'd make it a real entry. The short of the comment was that 'Eyes Wide Shut' was a much better movie involving secret societies.

Thanks for the note, denmarkadonis. ;-)

I agree with you about 'Eyes Wide Shut', as well. I personally thought it was a really good movie, despite the fact that it got a lot of bad popular reviews (from what I saw, most of the reviews by real film critics (as opposed to the opinioned 'review' pieces), film students, and real movie buffs were reasonably positive).

I think the problem came partly from the overblown publicity over the orgy scene (which I really didn't think was that bad, nor that big of a deal), and partly due to Stanley Kubrick's death.

I also think that a lot of people weren't sure what to make of it. I thought it was a beautifully filmed, directed, and acted movie. It was slow, true, but that added a lot to it, in my opinion. It allowed you to consider what was happening and think about the movie while it was playing.

All to often these days, movies require, and desire, no real thought. They just spoon feed a plot to you, if not shove it down your throat, and they work really hard to move fast enough that you never have to think about the plot. For a lot of people, thinking about the plot makes for a bad movie. They want mindless entertainment, and nothing more.

For people like this, 'Eyes Wide Shut' is not a good movie. 'Eyes Wide Shut' requires you to think about what is happening while it goes. It's not just a journey through time, where we watch and see what some people do. It's a journey through the mind of Tom Cruise's character.

As such, it is somewhat twisted, odd, and unusual. That's just the way the human mind is. Some of us are even twisted, odd, and unusual enough to enjoy it. ;-)

I could prolly go on a lot longer about this movie, but I'll shut up now. Got a different opinion about it? Share it with me. ;-)

It's here!

Okay, due to popular demand, I've gotten myself a picture for my username posted. ;-)

For those wondering about it, my parents are both obsessed with frogs. They have frog stuff all over the house. They actually considered naming me 'Frogmore'. And they weren't joking, they actually seriously considered it. Scary, eh?

Either way, their love of frogs was passed on to me, and as an 'almost-Frogmore', it's tough not to retain an affinity for them. Hope you like the pic. ;-)

Addendum: If you're curious, the reason I found this picture, is because my mom actually has the figurine it shows.

Second Addendum: I know the black background may cause some people color concerns, as riot so 'gently' pointed out. I expected this, and I'll see if I can give my pic a transparent background sometime in the next day or two. Until then, try to manage. ;-)
