Watching TV.

So, I'm watching the Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary special tonight. I was a little leery at first about the format, doing something of a "Michael Jackson tribute" to start off, with a number of artists performing MJ songs, before he then takes the stage, but I have to say I'm impressed. Most of the artists are doing a good job.

I did find one thing funny, though. . . the "Man in the Mirror" cover. First of all, from what I've been able to see from the cameras, the crowd is fairly young, the majority of it being under 30, I'd say. When 98 Degrees came out, there was some cheering. When Usher came out, there was more cheering. When Luther Vandross came out, most of the crowd were on their feet, cheering about three times as loud as they had for the 98 Degrees and usher. Popularity is an interesting thing, in any crowd, I suppose. ;-)

Looking forward to seeing Michael with the Jackson 5, and solo. Good show so far, though.

Okay.. I had to take a peek after reading this and I found it. I wanted to see the Jackson 5 together again.. I've come to a few realizations while watching this.

1) Nobody in the audience seems to be catching on that he's lipsynching to the songs that aren't being improved. (And don't argue with me, yes he is. He keeps his mouth covered with his hand during the lyrics and only takes it down during the chorous. He's mouthing the words but there's far too often he's not in time with them.)
2) His face seems to be disolving to the point where he actually has a morbid appearance.
3) His voice never changed during puberty.
4) Slash is far too large a mammal now to be wearing that shirt.

I disagree. ;-)

What I've noticed, is that he's holding his hand over his mouth whenever he's moving around much, and I don't think he's covering his mouth, but holding on to the microphone. He normally wears the headset mic so that he can dance during the set. . . I think he's having some sort of problem with the mic.

The fact that he zipped off stage and grabbed a normal mic, as opposed to the headset mic, as soon as he could, makes me think this even more.

And as for Slash. . . Slash is cool. ;-)
Yeah.. he is having problems with the mic.. he keeps forgetting to keep it close to his mouth when he's singing and yet, surprisingly, neither the clarity nor the volume is affected *grin*

In all fairness.. I only really noticed this in one song. I only watched for 3 though.. mainly because I'd already seen Voyager earlier.

Slash exudes cool.. but he still shouldn't be wearing that shirt. :)
Slash? Slash from GnR? On a Michael Jackson special?

Tell me you mean some other Slash. Please.
Nope.. sorry, I can't lie to you. It was him. If it makes you feel better though, you can have comfort in the fact that his association with MJ hasn't affected his income.. he appears to have been eating very well over the years. :)
Many (many) years ago, a friend of mine told me what her mother said about Slash after seeing him in an interview... her mother is an OB/GYN, a devout Roman Catholic, and strongly opposed to abortion.

"Slash is the best reason ever to legalize abortion."

He is vile, repulsive and the slimey stuff that floats on the gene pool of life... but he plays a mean guitar. :)

Same Slash. . .

In fact, he's been a personal friend of Michaels for some years now. Back in the early 90's, Slash toured with Michael as his guitarist.
